Rachel Brimble is in the round pen!

Osiyo~

It is with great honor that I have the wonderful and talented Rachel Brimble from across the pond (Europe for those like me who might be clueless to where that is) with me on the ranch today! Author of Lyrical Press book Paying the Piper and many more fun books I look forward to reading as soon as I whittle my tbr down slowly.

Welcome Rachel. We’re going to dig into some questions and have some fun!

Ready. Set. GO!

1)Do you have critique partners?

Yes, I do now and wonder why on earth I didn’t before! I hooked up with my first critique partner about a year ago and it’s been fantastic. We work really well together and she has made my writing better and thinking deeper. Even though she writes series romance and I write single title we click and I can’t imagine not working with her now.

My other critique partner I met online just a few months ago and so far it is going really well. We both write single title with lots of humor so the fit is great. And of course, we are having lots of laughs along the way.

Three cheers for good critique partners! 🙂

I agree! My cps are the air I breathe when writing!

2) If you could time travel would you go forward or backward?

Back definitely. I think we have lost a sense of what is important in the world and I would love to go back when family, friends and the community was what people needed to survive. The lack of human contact in our world is diminishing and I find that really worrying.

My favorite historical period is Victorian or Edwardian – rich with all different people, circumstances and beliefs. You throw poverty versus wealth and a World War into the mix and life is VERY different than what we know today.

3) Why do you write what you do?

I vary my genres between straight contemporary romance, romantic suspense and Victorian historical. Why? Because I love to read all three and so like to write them too!

As I now have an agent, it might be that I have to choose one to focus on at some point but right now, I am embracing the freedom I have of not being under contract to write a series. I love writing one of each and then starting again. I hope it keeps my writing fresh and my readers interested!

4) Tell us a little about your WIP

I am two thirds the way through my next book which is a contemporary romance with lots of humor and lots of sexy innuendo. I am having so much fun with it, you wouldn’t believe. I want to be my heroine. She is fabulous!

It is set in South West England, about a woman who runs a sexy lingerie and toy shop and because of unforeseen circumstances, she needs to move the business to her home address. This doesn’t go down too well with her new neighbor, a hunky single dad of four-year-old twin girls…

5: Favorite romance movie?

Message in a Bottle starring Robyn Wright-Penn, Kevin Costner and Paul Newman – an adaptation of the gorgeous book by Nicholas Sparks.

I love this movie and recommend everyone see it – I am so jealous I didn’t write this story myself! It has absolutely everything a good romance should have. I cry so much every time I watch it, lol! In fact, hubby isn’t home tomorrow night…

I LOVE Message in a Bottle! Wouldn’t it be fun to watch it, oh, and maybe Sleepless in Seattle in a girlie sleepover? Of course, we’d have wine over kool-aid. 🙂

Rachel’s latest release is “Paying The Piper” available right now from Lyrical Press.

Here’s the blurb:

Nightclub manager Grace Butler is on a mission to buy the pub where her mother’s ashes are scattered but the owner wants to sell to anyone but her. And that owner happens to be her father…who has a secret she will do anything to discover.

Social worker and all around good guy Jimmy Betts needs funds to buy a house for three special kids before their care home closes. Time is running out and he’s desperate for cash. He agrees to a one-time ‘job’ for bad-man Karl Butler. But in a sudden turn of events, Jimmy finds himself employed by Karl’s beautiful, funny and incredibly sexy daughter, Grace. Their lives couldn’t be more different, yet one thread binds them: they’re both trying to escape the bonds of their fathers. Maybe the only way they’ll be free is by being together, instead of alone.

What a nice couple!

Rachel lives with her husband and two young daughters in a small town near Bath in the UK.  She started writing short stories about eight years ago but once her children were at school, she embarked on her first novel. It was published in 2007. Since then, she’s had several books published with The Wild Rose Press, Eternal Press and Lyrical Press.  She recently acquired a US agent with her second Victorian historical. A member of the Romantic Novelists Association and Romance Writers of America, Rachel hopes to have a further two novels, one contemporary and one Victorian published in 2012.

When she isn’t writing, you’ll find Rachel with her head in a book or walking the beautiful English countryside with her family.  Her dream place to live is Bourton-on-the-Water in South West England. And in the evening? Well, a well-deserved glass of wine is never, ever refused…

I'm also a small online business owner of Okie fLips on Etsy and Poshmark (eBay/Merkari coming soon), https://www.etsy.com/people/cmselfridge and https://poshmark.com/closet/okieflips I'm a published author of sensual romance. I write about stubborn men and women who don't take no for an answer, and there's always that golden HEA. Cowboys and first responders are my favorite contemporary heroes to write about. My light paranormal heroes are strong men ready to protect their women--not that they need protecting, since they are capable of caring for themselves.

  1. Horse Whisperer is a fabulous book – recommend any Nicholas Evans book to anyone. Especially loved The Loop. As for Kevin Costner…say no more, Calisa!
Thanks for being here, ladies 🙂

    spoiler alert!

Yes, Calisa – he died in the book. (Horse Whisperer) but the movie ending was more realistic than the book – I thought. Her husband was totally accepting of the love child and stayed with her. He was a noble guy, but I found that ending to be a stretch. They had a better ending in the movie – more realistic. Though don’t ask me what it was since it has been so long. And FTR – I didn’t call him a hero, I just mentioned that both guys died and how did that make the stories romances? They could be considered Strong Romantic Elements though.

    • I agree they would be strong romantic element books. I know you didn’t call him a hero. I was saying in my opinion he isn’t one. 🙂 Though it’s still a great story that I read and would read again. I just didn’t like the movie version. Now Message in a Bottle- Love Kevin Costner! He’s my hero in anything he plays. lol

  4. It’s been a pleasure Rachel. I’ll announce the winner of her book back list tomorrow.

Lynne- you’re right on both counts. Both heroes died in the end, though I wouldn’t consider the hero in Horse Whisperer a hero since he had an affair with a married woman while her daughter was right there. lol But I do love the book over the movie and am so glad I read before it came out in movie. Did not care for the movie at all. Did he die in the book? I haven’t read it in forever, I can’t remember.

Lovely interview, gorgeous picture of you and your hubby, Rachel. That bit about traveling back in time, though, well, let’s just say that plumbing issues back then keep my adventures moving forward.
I thought the guy in message in the bottle died? Am I wrong there? Maybe I got that mixed up with the horse whisperer. Stubborn me still hasn’t welcomed Nick Sparks into the true romance club. I wouldn’t mind having his back list though! 🙂

Thank you to everyone for taking time to come by today. You’re all the very best! Hope the baby sleeps, Rachel. Poor thing. My brother was hit when he was 9 and it took him quite some time to recover. But then he was injured enough to hospitalize for two days so I hope she recovers faster!

  18. Hellooo!!

Glad to be here even though my visit will unfortunately have to be super quick – my eldest daughter (12) was knocked down by a car yesterday and thankfully came away with only concussion and a battered and bruised face and body. Having said that, she still very much needs mummy today so I can’t spare too many minutes!

Thanks so much for popping by, lovely ladies – it is SO appreciated!
