I am over the moon excited to have fellow Rose and my critique partner, Christine Warner on the Ranch and in the Round Pen today with her second book, Two Timing The Boss! I’ve dished up some tough questions for her and she took them on like the champ she is so let’s see what she came up with. 🙂

1. I don’t do lists well, but… list of your absolute necessities in order to write at your best.

I love lists, so here we go 🙂

1. The house must be quiet…no tv, no radio, no people talking…I can usually work with the hum of the refrigerator or birds chirping, but that’s about it. Lol

2. I need to have the phone turned off. Basically because it won’t ring for days until I start to write, then everyone seems to call 🙂

3. Either a cup of coffee, tea or water must be within reach 🙂

4. I like to write in my scrubs, sitting in my big chair in the living room because it’s surrounded by windows and it’s inspiring and comfortable.

5. Barefoot. I don’t like anything on my feet. I think it’s a throwback to my childhood when we ran around barefoot 90% of the time.  I’m a total comfort girl 🙂

If I have all of these five things, I can write without distraction and all is well in my little world.

2. What aspect of writing comes easy to you?  What is difficult?

I can come up with endless story ideas and I have a folder devoted to them all. I seriously doubt I would be able to write all of them in this lifetime, I have that many. But it’s fun to have choices when I’m starting something new.

As for what is the most difficult, I would have to say writing fight scenes. And I don’t necessarily mean hands on fighting because so far none of my stories have had that, but scenes where there is a tense verbal exchange. I’ve never liked raised voices or confrontation, so it’s hard for me to get through.

I get that. I clam up in verbal confrontations because I can’t think or make sense. My characters tend to suffer the same limitations. Lol

 3. Where in the world would you want to visit (all in the name of research, of course) and why?

Anywhere. I have story ideas that have my heroes and heroines all over the world. My husband and I recently just got back from a road trip where we visited NYC, Boston, SalemMA and a small section of Maine. I have stories already planned that will have my characters living in Maine and Boston.  I’d love to visit Scotland, Ireland, Spain…to just name a few… because I’d love to have first hand experiences there to draw off of when I write a story from one of those locales.

I guess I would be happy to travel just about anywhere. I could fit my characters in stories in any locale.

How fun would it be to actually go for research…ahhhh…maybe someday, right?

 4. What did you enjoy most about writing your latest work?

I loved writing my characters. I had the best time getting to know Farah and Keller as their story evolved. The best part was that they were each people who I would enjoy knowing in real life and being friends with.

5. What emotional reaction are you going for when your readers read your work?

I hope that after a reader finishes one of my stories that they walk away with a huge smile on their face. I want them to have laughed a little, teared up a little, rooted for the hero and heroine, wanted revenge if there was a villain, frustrated when things didn’t go quite right. Basically I want them to experience the entire range of emotions, but most importantly I want them to have that big sigh-worthy feel good moment that will stick with them long after the book has been read.

6. Dog, cat, or neither?

I’m going to cheat here…lol…since I’m a guest I get to do that J I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and there is no way I could choose which one I liked more. Since they all have their own distinct personality and bring something special to the family, I am glad to have dogs and cats in my life.

I’ll accept that. I have several dogs and one old cat. She lives at my sister’s ranch because she’s happier there, but she loves on me when I go see her. Lol

 7. Who or what would you walk over hot coals, climb a mountain, or swim an ocean to get to and why?

I would do anything for my kids because I love them more than I could put into words…and if they were standing on the other side of those hot coals, or the other side of the mountain or ocean and holding a chocolate bar, I’d move a little faster. lol

8. Salty, sweet, or both?

It’s all a mood thing for me. Some days I want salty, some days I want sweet and some days I want it all!  lol

I could go for a Payday bar right now! lol

EXCERPT:

These damn shoes would be the death of her.  She could read the headlines now:  Penniless P.A. Falls to her Death while on Job Interview.

Almost to her destination, with no more mishaps, her confidence surfaced.  Okay, maybe mastering this heel thing wouldn’t be such a big deal.  Her steps became light, almost bouncy.  Although she sensed Keller Donovan behind her, she didn’t let it deter her feeling of success.  She stepped onto the large black and red area rug, less than ten feet from her target.  The leather chairs.

“Oh!”  Farah’s spiky heel caught on the edge of the expensive rug.  Her legs shook and she shot her arms out from her sides, circling them like a bird about to take flight.  She fought to regain balance inside the ridiculous stilts strapped to her feet.  A brawl to the death.  Over when she looked down to see the rug coming up to kiss her face.  She threw out her hands, sucked in a breath and closed her eyes, scrunching her face as she prepared for impact.

But nothing happened.  There were stars all right, and a blazing jolt of electricity shot from her toes, up her legs, through her body and exited with the small gasp which escaped her lips.  Somehow Keller Donovan had grabbed her around the waist before she met the floor. 

Heat burned her cheeks.  He may have saved her body from bruises, but her ego, and whatever confidence she’d walked in with had shattered.

“Let’s not have an accident before your health benefits kick in.”  His breath tickled her ear from behind.  Chills hugged her backbone.

His touch released an unsettling flutter in her abdomen.  She sucked in her stomach from the pressure of his strong arms wrapped around her middle, afraid to breathe.
