Double Header With Jannine Gallant!

Osiyo~

Welcome one and all! Grab a beverage of choice, something sweet and sinful. No-no, not the men. What’s the matter with you? You know the hands-on rules… The guest gets first pick! 😉 Take a comfy seat for another, or a first, spin in the Round Pen.

I’m thrilled to welcome my wonderfully talented, sister Rose guest today, Jannine Gallant, who is sharing her new series, Secrets of Ravenswood, with us!

Please show Jannine some real Ranch love!

Before I get to the nosy 5-3-4 part of this interview, tell us a bit about you.

Write about what you know. I’ve taken this advice to heart, creating characters from small towns and plots that unfold in the great outdoors. I grew up in a tiny Northern California town and currently live in beautiful Lake Tahoe with my husband and two daughters. When I’m not busy writing or being a full time mom, I like to hike or snowshoe in the woods around my home with my dog, Ginger.

Whether I’m writing contemporary, historical, or romantic suspense, I try to bring the beauty of nature to my stories.

Okay, I’ll begin with five questions, then follow with three more, and end with four final ones.

My writing area at the moment is a corner of the couch in my living room. What does your writing space look like?

I write on my laptop at the end of the dining room table. Yes, there’s an office upstairs, but this way I can multi-task better because I’m closer to the action!

For a lot of writers it’s a life-altering event coming up with titles and character names. Others it comes as naturally as breathing. Which is it for you?

A little of both for titles. Sometimes, I’d rather have root canal. For others, inspiration strikes early. For this series, the title of the 1st book was a line from the first chapter, We’ll Never Tell. Because I wanted consistency, I played around with similar wording for the 2nd and 3rd books, She’ll Never Rest and He’ll Never Know, and voila, a series was born! As for character names, I use my handy-dandy, tattered 10,000 Baby Names book. Couldn’t live without it!

What advice would you offer aspiring and new writers?

I’d have to give them a piece of realistic advice and tell them to write because they love it, not because they think they’re going to be the next JK Rowling. If they’re in this business to get rich, they’ll probably be doomed to disappointment. We should all write because it makes us happy, because we can’t imagine not writing.

The constant shift of the industry makes me often scratch my head and ask ‘what next?’ So, what do you think it takes to be a successful author at the moment?

I wish I knew the answer to that one. I’ve been published with two small presses for a couple of years now. While the whole experience has been very rewarding, I’m not exactly paying the bills with my royalty checks. So, I’ve decided to diversify. Hence, my new indie series. I’m also shopping a longer historical romance to big publishers and agents. I figure getting a little more exposure in all the different markets can’t be a bad thing!

Who would you like to meet in the publishing industry- dead or alive- and why?

Hmmm, I’d kind of like to meet LaVyrle Spencer and ask her why the heck she felt the need to retire. She was one of my all-time favorites! Aren’t we all supposed to drop dead with our fingers still glued to the key board? LOL

It’s time for 3 in 1! I’ll ask the questions and you answer them in one word. 😆

Favorite animal?  Dog

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter?  Summer

Favorite food?  Spaghetti

Well done! 🙂

Okay, Flash four. Ready?

What are you working on now?

Currently I’m working on a sequel to my cowboy story, Nothing But Trouble. This one also takes place in Redemption, Texas and is called Asking For Trouble. It will be part of a new, multi-author series with The Wild Rose Press. Look for it next spring.

What are you sharing today?

I’m doubling down today – two for the price of one! The second book in my Secrets of Ravenswood Series just released! And in honor of this momentous occasion, the first book is free for a limited time!

Secrets of Ravenswood

For three lifelong friends, will past tragedies haunt their futures—or open the door to love…

We’ll Never Tell – Book One

????????????????????????????????????????Three young girls witness a murder—and make a pact never to tell what they saw. But when the woman’s body is uncovered seventeen years later, the killer’s faith in their promise is shaken. A few deadly reminders may be in order…

Samantha Beaumont knows it’s time to reveal the truth about what happened in the woods all those years ago—until the accidents begin. Fear that the killer will shut them up permanently leads Sam on a quest to protect her friends and expose the murderer’s identity. No one, certainly not the man she spent one memorable night with, will stop her.

Ethan Thorne has no reason to believe Sam is any more interested in a commitment now than when she ran from him five years before. Still, he can’t resist trying one more time… When he realizes her life is in danger, he’ll risk everything for a chance at love.

She’ll Never Rest – Book Two

????????????????????????????????????????Darby Kincade is a genealogist—not a ghost hunter. But when she’s hired to research the Nash family tree, her job description blurs. Discovering the identity of the spirit who lingers in the ancestral home promises to be both challenging and fun—despite her client’s skeptical grandson.

Logan Nash doesn’t believe in ghosts, but Darby’s wit and tenacity intrigue him. Though his practical side objects, he’s drawn to both her and the old mystery. As their feelings for each other deepen, and they grow closer to uncovering the truth, someone is determined to keep long dead secrets buried.

Will Darby and Logan find love—or will the past come back to haunt them?

  3. Than you for the book! I look forward to reading it.
I have an office, but sometimes I get lonely and wander into the living room to be with my husband. I tune out the TV and write on my iPad, put the work in Dropbox, and attach it to my computer file the next morning. Best of both worlds.

  4. I write in a little corner of the dining room using a TV tray for my keyboard. From this vantage point, I can see the living room TV, out the front window to the birdbath and out the back sliding glass doors. I’m only steps away from the kitchen which can be problematic for the calorie count.
Your books sound really wonderful. I really liked the blurb for She’ll Never Rest

Your work area sounds EXACTLY like mine. Probably why I don’t get much done when the family is home. Distractions abound! I adore writing blurbs, so I’m glad you like it! Thanks.

Thanks, Leanne! It was a really fun series to write. You can bet your booty if I was selling as many books as LaVyrle did, there’d be no retirement plan in my future! LOL

    • I live for the day I can close myself off in an office again, Kristi. I have a two story shed by the house and soon I get to move my office over there! I’m so excited. I can also set up my sewing/crafting area there.

Mae Clair, I hope you enjoy the books! What a small world! Jason’s is in Kings Beach about a mile from the CA?NV boarder. I used to wait tables there back in my youth!

  9. Great interview, and the books are most definitely going on my TBR list. Thank you for the free download of WE’LL NEVER TELL. I love these types of stories with secret pacts from childhood related to some horrible tragedy. I’m looking forward to reading both.

BTW, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Lake Tahoe years ago. Such a beautiful area. I remember a quaint restaurant tucked on the Nevada side called Jason’s. Mostly sandwiches, I think. I’m not a fan of hamburgers but they made the best one I’ve ever eaten. I still have a mammoth pine cone that dropped (like a bomb) from one of those towering Ponderosa pines!
