Calisa Rhose welcomes Darlene Fredette to Tuesday Round Up #MFRWauthor #TWRP
Osiyo~
Welcome one and all! Grab a beverage of choice, something sweet and sinful. No-no, not the men. What’s the matter with you? You know the hands-on rules… The guest gets first pick! 😉 Take a comfy seat for another, or a first, spin in the Round Pen.
I’m thrilled to welcome my wonderfully talented guest today, Darlene Fredette, who is sharing her book, Law of Attraction with us!
Please show Darlene some real Ranch love!
Before I get to the nosy 5-3-4 part of this interview, tell us a bit about you.
An avid reader since childhood, I loved to put a pencil to paper and plot out stories of my own. I write heartwarming contemporary romances with a focus on plot-driven page-turners. When I’m not writing, editing, or reading, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and Yellow Lab.
Okay, I’ll begin with five questions, then follow with three more, and end with four final ones.
My writing area at the moment is a corner of the couch in my living room. What does your writing space look like?
My writing space is very organized and tidy…however, I rarely write in my office. I write on my laptop, which allows me to be portable. So, like you, I’m usually in the living room, sitting in my comfy chair with my dog at my feet (that’s no lie…he’s asleep on my feet as I type). I only drag one file folder around with me, containing notes on my current story. The rest of my files and books are neatly stacked on a shelf in my office.
For a lot of writers it’s a life-altering event coming up with titles and character names. Others it comes as naturally as breathing. Which is it for you?
Characters names are easy. If I can’t think of a name for one of my characters, I’ll seek out my daughter’s advice. She’s a great help. Unfortunately, titles don’t come as easily. They either hit me right away, or I’m stumped. One of the new stories I’m making notes for is currently untitled and may be that way until I type the words, The End.
What advice would you offer aspiring and new writers?
Just write. If you’re not good at deadlines, then don’t set any. Write when you can. Everyone has daily interruptions (work, family, etc). The less pressure you place on yourself, the more the story will flow from the tips of your fingers.
The constant shift of the industry makes me often scratch my head and ask ‘what next?’ So, what do you think it takes to be a successful author at the moment?
I can’t keep up with all the changes and social media, so I just write the best story I can. Then I make sure it’s clean and ready for an editor/publisher’s eyes. Once I hit ‘Send’, I keep my fingers crossed they enjoy my story. In regards to social media, I’m no expert, but I try my best to get the word out there about my books.
Who would you like to meet in the publishing industry- dead or alive- and why?
One of the first romance novels I read was by Penny Jordan. She’s one of my favorite authors, so I’d love to meet her and chat for hours.
It’s time for 3 in 1! I’ll ask the questions and you answer them in one word. 😆
Favorite animal?
Dogs
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter?
Summer
Favorite food?
Dessert
Well done! 🙂 Okay, Flash four. Ready?
What are you working on now?
Hershey’s Choice, a heartwarming contemporary romance. This story is becoming one of my favorites. The characters are fun and Hershey is irresistible.
What are you sharing today?
Lawyer Christina Crawford has a successful career and stable financial future, but is it enough? Her world is disrupted when a routine divorce case means working with a man she never expected—or wanted—to see again. During their first meeting, she can’t deny a connection still exists. Her head warns her to run, but her heart yearns to stay.
Steven Mitchell is ruthless in the court room, but outside those doors, his easy charm, good looks and unlimited stream of female companions gives him an unscrupulous reputation. Six years ago Christina saw beyond his façade, but the emotions she evoked scared him and he pushed her away. Now he wants a second chance and he is determined to get her back…even if he has to play dirty.
Excerpt:
Heart pounding in her chest, she closed the door behind him. Wearing her best business face, she returned to this disastrous meeting and sat. Christina drew in a deep breath, and a measure of control was restored. She picked up her pen and flipped open the case file. “So, according to these documents, your client is contesting the divorce?”
Steven reached across the table and snatched the pen from her hand. “What’s the rush, Christina? We haven’t seen each other in years. There’s a lot of catching up to do.”
She clenched her teeth together, barely parting her lips as she spoke. “We have nothing but this case to discuss.”
“Come on, don’t be like that.” He leaned back in his chair, frowning. “You’re not still holding a grudge, are you? What happened was so long ago. I hoped we could start fresh, as friends.”
“Are you freaking serious?” She glared an icy stare. Forget a slow death by high heel. She’d get more pleasure strangling him with her bare hands. “You accused me of misconduct, had me fired, and now you want to be friends?” Her heart thumped a rapid beat in her ears. “You’re out of your mind.”

I like a warm pup at my feet as well. Loved your excerpt, especially the going from heal to strangulation. Men are just like this–clueless. Well done!
