Day 2 NaNo! Buddy with Calisa Rhose! #nanowrimo2017 #mfrwauthor #amwriting

Osiyo~

A quickie thanks to amazing author Silver James for creating these AWESOME NaNo daily inspiration badges and letting me steal them a day at a time! I added the frame on mine. Feel free to save-to-borrow your own copy, as she said to share them! Click on any of these badges all month to get to her website and check out her books.

It was a busy day today. I had a full day with minimal interruptions planned to write, write, write. Well, this is a perfect example of why I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. Planning ahead rarely works out for me. J

First thing, I checked a few emails. I do this each morning before starting a day of writing. Get that out of the way so I don’t get tempted to check it all day. Then I got side tracked.

My 12 year old granddaughter (gdd) whom lives with us hurt her knee in a bicycle crash last summer. Just when we thought it was nothing, it began hurting a lot, every day. So I took her to our Dr. who treated it with a cream to cure bursitis. He said he hoped it would help, because if not bursitis, then she likely broke her patella (knee cap) in half. Yikes! That would require surgery to put in pins to heal it. Not what I hoped to hear. Especially when, after two weeks, the cream had not helped at all.

I called to let the Dr. know and he came back with a referral to an orthopedic Dr. We saw that Dr. last week and he took x-rays and reviewed them with us. Thankfully, she did not break her patella. In fact, he said there was a calcium spur on the side of her knee but he had no way of knowing what caused it, or when. But nothing is broken. YAY!

Well, not quite. Since it’s not broken, now we don’t know what is causing her the extreme and constant pain. Next he ordered an MRI for Nov. 1. It didn’t get in the way of my writing, though having gdd calling to be picked up three hours before school was out because she couldn’t take the pain did sort of slow things. Actually, it slowed writing quite a bit, because that’s how I am when it comes to The Girl. Family always must be first for me. So I picked her up and later we went to get the MRI. We have an appointment Monday afternoon to get those results. I’ll keep you posted.

But in all the kid stuff I still got 631 words down. Not bad.

Today, day 2, not so good. The Girl woke up crying and in pain, so she stayed home from school and rested her leg all day with heat on it. I had research to do on the NaNo project, so I didn’t get any actual words written, though I did work on it. That’s ok. I’ll make up what word count I’m short along the way. J

Day 2- research, zero words

And on to another day.

If you think you want to NaNo, I urge you to give it a shot. It’s addictive!

If you already NaNo, look me up and we can be buddies! You can find me here. I think. I hope. If this link isn’t right, just type in Calisa Rhose. LOL

Until tomorrow…

Wishes and prayers. It’s one of those “I can’t talk about that here” days, weeks. I wish I could and one day maybe I can, but for now… I apologize for this post being a little late.post being a little late.

I’m wishing something painful wasn’t, and praying for someone so very special. If you’d care to, we could sure use your prayers, too. Good wishes, whatever you believe in as a higher power, we could use lots of right now.

Thank you.

Osiyo~

I’m channeling my spiritual side today. If I don’t…well, you might guess what F would stand for in today’s A to Z Challenge post (and yes, I’m aware I missed my letter post for yesterday, so I’ll catch up Sunday).

Here’s my day yesterday. (This is, in part, an email to a friend)

Things have been a bit tough here in the Rhose household lately. Yesterday they got a little more…shall I say challenging? It began with a cartwheel that went very, very wrong. There was a boy doing cartwheels, and Andee got the urge to show her friends she can do the flips too. ‘The girl’ cannot do cartwheels! She knows that, we all know that.
Double LL break 4-21-2012

Double LL break 4-21-2012

About 11 a.m. I got a call from the school that Andee–yes, the birthday girl from just days ago, challenge letter ‘C’–broke her arm. So, I asked the school secretary ‘how bad’ and she said, “It’s, uh…well, ah, mmn–You might want to look for yourself.” I knew right then it was bad. I asked which arm, although I already knew deep down. The left. Again. Three years ago (almost to the day!), 4-21-12, she broke her left arm in the middle of both forearm bones when she fell off a gate at her dad’s house.

Mr. Rhose had to stay home with his dad, so I took the girl to the nearest hospital and spent three hours in the treatment room. Finally, the Dr. set it and released Lbreak4-213x4dualher. Luckily, she only broke the radial this time, instead of both as last time. But I looked at the x-rays, beforeand after he set and splinted it, and it didn’t look any better when he was finished. See, Andee BREAKS her arm, not fractures, not cracks, not clean breaks. lol Just short of compound, total displacement, so it has to be reset into place, under sedation. She did that to both bones last time. Her arm was (capital) ‘S-shaped’ three years ago. This time it was a lowercase ‘s’. lol
As soon as that dr. released her I immediately headed to OKC and the Children’s hospital. I should have gone there first, but it’s almost an hour away and not knowing how much internal damage was done, I thought it best to go to the closest one. Wrong. I won’t make that mistake again. That dr. only gave her a pain shot before he set it. She was screaming.

Andee’s mom was able to meet us at the first hospital just after the setting, so they followed us to OKC at around 2:30 p.m., where we spent the next nearly 6 hours. As soon as the Dr. there walked in Andee asked, “Why do I think I know you?” I looked at him and realized right off that Dr. Williams is the same Dr. who treated her three years ago!
They got x-rays from the first hospital and immediately agreed with me that it was not set right. Called the ortho dr. and then we waited for consult, free time to fix her and a free room to work in. Since the ortho dr. uses constant x-rays to make sure the bone is set right before they splint it, there couldn’t be anyone in the adjoining bed, and they were full last night.

The ortho on call last night wasn’t the same resident as three years ago (Austin Taylor was young, but oh-so hot! lol and has since graduated), but the gal last night was great and very nice. She was finally able to get to work at 6 p.m. and Andee was waking up by 7. Yes, OU Children’s always knocks her out completely. Thankfully, Andee broke her arm before lunch so there was no full stomach issues to worry about when they sedated her. We looked at the after x-ray again and you can barely tell where it’s broken! Such a clean job.

Final X-ray 4-7-2015

We finally got released at a little before 8 p.m. and home just after 9, after a pain med fill (thank God for all night pharmacies!) and food for the girl. Poor thing was starved! lol So…Monday we go for the cast. She’ll return to school tomorrow.

Oh–and her ortho dr. for casting and follow-ups? Also the same one she had last time. I’m glad because we really liked Dr. Stockton. And I had to promise Dr. Williams I’ll bring Andee to visit him Monday when we go back.

For now, this is my Andee.

As soon as I have the other X-rays I’ll share those for anyone who cares to see what the initial break looked like. I’ll also post updates on casts and healing progress.
I could write a book of my life! LOL Until next time!

Zen Andee on Apple- 2014

Folks, Andee is our first grandchild and she has reached a huge milestone. To say we are thrilled and proud of her, well I hope everyone reading this is, or will be, blessed with a grandchild as wonderful as we’ve been blessed with. We actually have five granddaughters and we’re super proud of each and every one of them.

Andee loves horses, her two dogs and playing with friends. She’s a confessed tom-boy, but loves to dress up and put on make up (to play, of course). She’s in fourth grade and makes excellent grades, but not perfect. And that’s just fine with us since we know she does her best and that’s all we can ask. 🙂

So, because Anna Banana lives with us and we have lots to do to prepare for her celebration, I’ll keep this post short.

Thanks for stopping by to help us party!

Baby, You get me ~ Calisa Rhose

Osiyo~

It’s Verterans Day and I offer a prayer to all those who do and have served in the military in any capacity. The Ranch has our flag flying proud regardless of the storms Mother Nature has battered parts of the country with.

Speaking of Mother Nature, I want to share a little of my weekend. I’ve said I’m gonna be a grandmother again. This one will be our fifth granddaughter. Where’s the beef, hell! I wanna know WHERE THE BOYS ARE?!!? This baby will be my oldest granddaughter, Andee’s (who lives with hubby and me) half sister, by our middle girl.

We had the baby shower this weekend- and as is becoming my new ‘bad’ habit since my camera broke in June, I forgot to borrow a one. Thank goodness for camera phones.

Last week we went to see our first realistic picture of little Mackenzie Jean by way of technology and 4D ultrasounds. Andee deemed her an alien. What say you?

Sometimes life throws delicious curve balls!

Osiyo~

I had planned (will I never learn not to?) to let the last post run for a few days because Connor is SUCH a total hottie and deserves his 15 minutes of fame, his name in lights and all that. Maybe he’ll get his chance again in real lights and not dim fluorescent ones soon. For now, I have a couple of announcements I can’t hold in any more!

First (and I really don’t know which is more exciting for me) my husband and I found a house deal we couldn’t pass up. Because of my FIL we weren’t sure if we could take the deal, however. To our surprised delight he’s fully onboard though! We are buying a house!!!!!!

This house!

It’s so lovely. Three bedrooms (or two and an office for mwah!) Two full baths, one attached to the master which we are letting FIL have since it’s the only bedroom that is down stairs. The kitchen is gorgeous with twenty feet of counter and cupboards. Incredible! We’ll do a little fixing up (ie. new carpet upstairs, new flooring in the kitchen and maybe one bath, new back deck, etc), minor stuff of preference. Best of all it sits on three and a half acres and is much closer to our daughters and granddaughters! Actually between the two who live the farthest away right now.  So, though  we just moved to Fil’s two weeks ago for what we thought was an indeterminate time span- we will be moving again. This past week and all weekend we’ve been extremely busy cleaning it and getting it ready to move into in a month or less.

Second (and this has me squeezing all day!) I got my cover, the official artist generated cover by the talented Tina Lynn Stout, for my soon to publish historical novella, under The Wild Rose Press Vintage line, HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the striped awning at the top is says small town Oklahoma. The car is perfect for the 1960’s which HOME is set in. Just pet look at this.

Have you ever seen a more beautiful book cover? Well, maybe you have- I don’t want to know. Lol Don’t you love the muted, dreamy quality Tina gave my story? With so many new and very blank walls in the new house I need decorations. I need to print this and frame it! Would 24×36 be too big? Yes, I do have a frame that large! Lol Maybe a more modest 16×20?

Nah. I’ll go with a nice 8×10 I think. After all, I have to have room on my new walls for many more book covers in the future. Remember, this story is just one of a multi-author series to be released by The Wild Rose Press in future months! And, of course, I will have Connor and Viv up one day in a glowing frame as well, if all revisions go well.

So sit back and drool with me for a while as I celebrate.

>HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!! and NRCA abounds!

>Osiyo~

Have a very safe and fun Halloween everyone! Not my fave holiday (give me Christmas anyday!), but any holiday is fun and my fave when I get to spend it with my three darling granddaughters! Can you believe this is the first Halloween I get to spend with all three girls, even though they went out together last year? I was home sick, sucking in Vicks and text-sent piccys of their fun. This year I’m not missing the fun…ok, it’s really about the candy I plan to pirate from the kiddies… But, it will be spent with them! Yep, I will post piccies!
