Six Sentence Sunday
Osiyo~
I wasn’t going to do this this week- lazitis acting up- but decided to beat it down. š So I’m offering up another taste of Healing Whispers and then I think I’ll go work on edits for this one so I can get it published soon! LOL
In this scene Tobi has left Mags, and her scrumptious fudge, behind to call her uncle about his attempts to take her horse. Maybe you can tell why Maggie refers to Uncle Mark as a ‘snake.’ š
Tidbit: In the planned book two it is Mark’s son, Garrett who takes center stage as the faulty hero. š
āMark, we need to discuss this horse youāre trying to take. Heās not for sale.ā She dove right in hoping to make him see sense, or at least to catch him off guard. His law suit was ridiculous, to say the least, and he had to drop it. She owned Starfireās Comet, period.
āI didnāt plan on buyinā him, darlinā.Ā
Whew! Just reading that makes my blood boil! LOL

In case you have heard and commented on the fire situation, I want to thank you for all the prayers and well wishes. After one night evacuated, we’re back home and everyone human and pet in our family is well. Helicopters are flying over tonight looking out for hot spots and flare-ups. I’m conflicted in how I feel about this. On the one hand I’m relieved they are diligent in preventing more fire. On the other hand it disturbs me that it is even necessary. But I am so thankful for our volunteer and paid firemen working, risking life to protect us.
Hello to new visitors and welcome back to those who are returning to the Ranch! I’m going back to Healing Whispers this week. Tobi has introduced Tanner to Starfire, her ‘broken’ horse and she has returned to the house to check in with her cook on dinner preparations. My Tobi has quite a sweet tooth as you’ll see in this snippet.
Tobi was hoping for some of the womanās delicious chocolate fudge brownies tonight, had hinted so strongly that morning that Mags had run her out of the house.Ā The minute she entered the big old kitchen and smelled the rich German chocolate, she smiled and kissed Maggieās age-softened cheek.
āYouāre spoiled, girl.ā
āI knows it and I luvs it!ā she laughed and snatched one of the perfect chocolaty squares to bite into, as a sigh escaped her lips. āBetter than sex.ā
Maggie laughed, āYou must be doing something wrong if my brownies are that good, honey!ā
I just love this scene.
Thank you for coming by and I’ll check in when I get a chance. I’ll either be hanging with friends over ‘work’ or helping with refreshments for the firemen most of today. I’d love to chat so comment and I’ll be in as soon as I can.

I almost forgot! Visit the link embedded in the logo for all this weeks sixers and here’s my rushed contribution.
I literally have four minutes to get this live so I hope you will forgive the briefness! What a week… Good thing my characters don’t mind being yanked and bossed around. š
It’s a quickie but Tanner is asking Tobi why she waited so long to get help for her horse and this is her response.
āI didnāt. It has just taken me this long to, hopefully, find someone who can help. I thought that other whisperer was a good choice, based on referencesā¦until he got here. Once he realized heād be working directly with a woman, he seemed more interested in why I didnāt breed, than Starfire.ā She heard the words flow from her lips and bit her tongue to still it. Dang it!Ā
Thanks and have a great day!

Once again if you’re an ‘oldie’ welcome back. New to the Ranch? I’m so excited to ‘see’ you here! Thank you for stopping to check out my writing and if you feel like taking a little tour around my cyber Ranch, I’ll wait.
Back? Did you try the buffet table and coffee fountain? Which spout did you drink from? I love the Mocha! š
So the last two weeks I’ve been teasing you with snippets from Healing Whispers, my contemporary cowboy story. Here’s a blurb to help you out:
Heart-bruised, half Cherokee Tobi Star has forgotten how to trust and love after a cheating ex-fiancĆ©, and her beloved fatherās death. Sheās a strong woman with determination to make her familyās horse ranch survive the threat of greedy relatives trying to steal her troubled, champion breeding stallion. The answer to her prayer comes in the form of Tanner Royal, a horse whisperer with a desire for his own family. This ex-bull riding hero is more than she can resist, but who, after a disastrous marriage, has his own demons from the past tearing at him, which has him doubting whether heās husband material.Ā
And today I present a sneak peek that proceeds last weeks’ post by a few paragraphs. I’ll wait while you go check that out too. Already? That was quick! Here you go then:
That was a new mare and Iād hoped heād react to that, as much as the heat pheromones sheās putting out.ā
āIt didnāt work.ā
āI know. So, what is your initial impression?ā
āDonāt have one.ā Her gaze clicked on him and he continued, āNot without a contract.ā
Ahh- so he’s a man with scruples when it comes to business. I wonder how he feels about business before pleasure? š
Thank you for staying to read. I hope you like it and I’ll be checking out some of my fellow 6-ers now. You can too by clicking the logo at the top and going to the 6SS home page.
Until next week-

Welcome! If you’re returning, welcome back to another installment of 6 Sentence Sunday! Click this link or the logo to find all participants.
I’m going to continue with last week’s story choice, Healing Whispers, because I love this story and the main characters. I also love the secondary characters which is who you’ll be meeting this week.
Meet Starfire’s Comet- the reason for this book:
The horse pranced anxiously, causing Tanner to tense on high alert. The stallion stepped closer to her and after a few silent seconds she nodded slightly. Movement to the left caught his attention as a man led a bay mare into the ring near the stud.
The mare squealed her excitement at the studās presence, which would normally lead to breeding. It caught him slightly off guard when the woman turned the stallion toward the mare, and the Palomino promptly whirled and moved away, striking and twisting his thick body with a threatening grunt. Tanner suspected then, that the masterpiece stallion was Starfireās Comet, the reason he was on the Star Cross ranchĀ in Ryan, Oklahoma .Ā
This is definitely a male with female issues. lol I hope you enjoyed this peek and return next week for another glimpse of the masterpiece HQN turned down! š

This week I’m sharing a little something from another cowboy story I submitted to Harlequin Special Edition two years ago, and only recently got a rejection on it….
To set it up a little, this is from Healing Whispers Tanner Royal, horse whisperer, has arrived on Tobi Star’s breeding and training ranch to treat a horse for her. This is his first impression of her. š
Golden eyes of a lioness, sharp with a dark rim of long thick lashes grazed over him slowly, sending a shock of heat through him. He shifted his feet as his temperature hiked. He wished she would look somewhere else.
Hellās bells.
Heād stared down Brahman bulls with less fire in their eyes. This slip of a woman was as exotic looking as any creature heād ever seen on National Geographic, and just as intense.Ā
I adore these two characters and absolutely LOVED writing their story. They will get a revision workout and be submitted out again this year. Or that’s my intentions for them anyway. lol I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek.

Whether it’s your first visit, or you’re a returning glutton for punishment, WELCOME Ā to Six Sentence Sunday in the Round Pen here on the Ranch! š
I missed out last week on 6SS due to family stuff. This week will be the last of In the Mists of the Mind at least for a while. Not sure what Iāll surprise you with next week, but whenever my new book gets farther along, Iāll share pieces of my newest contracted book with you.Ā
In case some of you haven’t heard, I sold my contemporary short novel, Perfect Dr. Viv, newly titled Risk Facotrs, to Lyrical Press, Inc. last week! I got a tentative release of March 2013 yesterday. š
For now hereās another peek at Chelcie and Dray. To set the scene up a little. She goes looking for her love and runs into a strange man who follows her. Chelcie is suspicious of Drayās brother, having never met him and worried the enemy is closing in on her after a series of events. In her fear she (and Dray) discovers a new gift. One that could get Dray killed.
In a moment all sense of reason fled, after exiting the car, to see his brother fly through the air and land in a broken heap a fair distance from Chelcie.
Forcing his body to work, he reached her in a matter of seconds, āWhat the hell are you doing?ā
A slight flick of her wrist rooted his feet to the ground as surely as if heād grown roots. Her eyes were wild, flittering here and there over him.
She backed away and glanced toward where Colin still lay. A prayer for Colinās life was in order.

Six Sentence Sunday
My name is Calisa, and I’m addicted to 6-Sentence Sundays! š
Six just aren’t enough! I’m seriously considering doing something about this. But for today, I’ve decided to go a few more times with Dray and Chelcie and then maybe move on to another WIP or book. Ā
My lovebirds have moved past their first meeting and Chelcie has gone to visit the local leprechaun for advice. Yes, this story has a leprechaun! And it’s no surprise when Ludovic knows who Dray is, or that he knows the mysterious man is the fuel behind Chelcie’s visit. It’s more what he reveals that surprises her.
āHow much danger does he pose for me?ā she asked.
Suddenly Ludovic was cackling. āDear girl, there is something much more important you need to consider.ā
āWhat?ā
āHe will see inside you. Dray Corbeau is very gifted, very strong, so beware lest you test him.ā
Hm. Interesting turn of events for Chelcie. She’s become used to being the one to see inside Dray. š
Thank you for coming by and I hope you enjoy this week’s peek. Don’t forget you can find many more participants if you click on the logo above.Ā

Yep. It’s that time and I’m excited to bring you a little more of something I’m writing! For the last three weeks I’ve been sharing snippets of a paranormal I’ve been working on since Nano 2006. Obviously I didn’t win Nano if I’m still writing on this story. š But that’s ok. I plan to do Nano this year again and maybe I’ll win this time.
So Dray and Chelsie have met but what are their gifts? They are mind manipulators of massive proportions. They can hear thoughts of those around them, they can move objects, make outsiders see what isn’t there, or keep them from seeing what is- to name a few special gifts these Talents are capable of. There are levels of gifts and a special ‘race’ that can do several of these simultaneously. Chelcie is one of these. I call them Kortais. They are kind of like the queens of the manipulators. Rare and hardly ever discovered. It is almost unheard of for someone to meet one, much less two or especially not three- or at least not know when they do meet them. This group is protected because without them the entire race of mind manipulators is at risk of elimination. There is one particular enemy who wants to find and kill Chelcie because she has the power to destroy him when others before her failed for hundreds of years. Can she survive long enough to save her race? Will she find the one who is the key to accomplishing her fated job? Or will the evil one kill her as he did her ancestors?
This week I’llĀ skip a few linesĀ from where I left off last week. Dray truly doesn’t know what to make of Chelcie at this point. He is unreasonably and romantically drawn to her, though he suspects she might be sent to kill him. Maybe it’s the Frenchman in him?
āWhat are you looking at with such interest?ā
Such obstinate belligerence in her voice, but he supposed he didnāt blame her. He was, after all, staring rudely, and enjoying it very much.
āHmm? You.ā Not that he would admit to the impossibility to drag his gaze from her lovely face at that moment.Ā
I think he’s smitten. What about you? Don’t forget you can follow the link in the 6SS link at the top to find more snippets from participating writers. Until next week…
