Calisa Rhose invites Eve Rabi to Friday Fanfare #mfrwauthor #scandalous #suspense

THE OTHER WOMAN – a betrayed wife takes on the other woman with scandalous results. By  Eve Rabi

How did the writer’s journey begin for you?

My writing career began with a nightmare. Okay, I know this sounds cliched, and you’ve heard this before, but it’s true. I had a nightmare, and I was so terrified, I couldn’t fall asleep again. I didn’t want to fall asleep again. I started writing Beast of Mexico – Gringa, then went on to write 27 other books, including The Other Woman. Bad dreams, I realize, can be handy to creative people. These days, I’m no longer afraid of bad dreams. I say bring it on.

Tell us three things about you-the writer-readers wouldn’t typically know.

  1. I like to dance like no one is watching. I dance often, almost every week.
  2. I like to eat like no one is watching – I’m a foodie, what can I say! My idea of good food is a chocolate burger for breakfast.
  3. I hate housework. Despise it. I am a widow, but I reckon I could do with a wife in the future, not a husband. Then, I’ll have so much more time to write!

Chocolate Burger *snort* Love it!

Where did you get the premise for this book?

With The Other Woman, I was inspired by life. We all know of a woman who has stolen someone else’s husband, destroyed a family, shattered dreams and went on to live happily ever after. It’s hurtful, and often the poor wife is left behind with little, while the new wife replaces her with ease and lives happily ever after. The wronged wife is supposed to quietly move on, despite being gutted and robbed by another woman. It’s downright unfair, isn’t it? Well, I wondered what would happen if the wronged wife fought back, took revenge? As I started writing, the story flowed and it became a hit with my readers. If you enjoy a good revenge romance, then this is the book for you. It’s a fast-paced, gripping, sexy, romantic suspense read.

What stands out about this story that made writing it different for you?

It was fun to unleash a wronged wife with nothing to lose, on a woman who has everything to lose. Unleash her on a sultry seductress who can turn any man’s head and who is not used to losing.  In The Other Woman, the wronged wife does not pull back. She goes there, and does things we wouldn’t dream of doing. She is reckless and the destruction she wreaks on the other woman is mammoth and stressful. Stress can seriously affect a marriage, but can it also affect a lover’s illicit romance? See for yourself when you read The Other Woman.

What about this book would make us want to read it more than others of similar taste?

Well, if you’re bored of the everyday same ol’, same ol’ boring romance, or if you aren’t into just erotica, if you enjoy reading on the edge of your seat, you should read The Other Woman. If you enjoy laughing and crying while falling in love, then you should read The Other Woman.
Here’s what an Amazon reader had to say, “I could not put this book down, I finished it at 2:30 in the morning and I had to get up for work @ 6:30. However, it was worth every yawn I had during the day @ work. Read it and you will see why.”

What do you want readers to take away from this book?

Revenge is a cool fantasy. However, sometimes, on the road to revenge, you can pass a field of daisies. Stop, take a moment and run through the field. It may change your life. Change your path for the better.

Tell us about the finished book. Is there anything special we might not know after reading it?

The story was so popular with my readers, I went on to write a few sequels to it. I promise, you will enjoy them. In fact, The Other Woman, as well as the sequels have an overall five-star rating on Amazon U.K. and Amazon AUS. I’ve had several book clubs read it and tell me how enjoyable it was. It’s a topic for debate as well – was the wronged wife justified in what she did?

Shouldn’t she just have walked away with her head held high? A debate best carried out after a few glasses of wine.

***

Question: A seductress steals your husband, rips apart your family and shatters your dreams.
You:
a) Wish them luck, and walk away with your head held high (because that’s what society expects you to do)?
b) Quietly seethe, but accept that there is just nothing you can do about it (because it easier for everyone if you do nothing)?
c) Dig up dirt on the bitch (because someone like this would undoubtedly have dirt), use it to sabotage their relationship, then sit back with a glass of Pinot Grigio and watch them burn?
Answer: C. Oh, totally C.

Meet Scarlett Smyth. She’s drop-dead gorgeous, has a rocking body and has an above average IQ. She brags that she can ensnare any husband or taken male, and …she often does. She also is ambitious and has a penchant for anything expensive.
When the shrewd and ambitious temptress lays eyes on Bradley Murdoch, she believes she has found her dream man and a ticket to the high life she’s entitled to. There are just two problems:
1) Bradley is married to Rival. Happily at that.
2) They have children. Adorable little girls.
Do those facts deter Scarlett in any way? No, not at all. She is determined to steal Bradley, smoothly replace Rival in his life and show him how to really live life.
In a calculating move, the seductress (she is so good at seduction, she is even penning a book on it) befriends the quiet and unassuming Rival and worms her way into Bradley’s life.
There’s more: To expedite things, Scarlett the mistress, engineers a way to wipe Rival out of the picture – sends the clueless wife on a “vacation”.
But Scarlett may have underestimated her opponent. When Rival realizes the extent of the betrayal, she decides, even though she lacks Scarlett’s genius IQ, not to turn the other cheek. In fact, she is determined to win back her husband, believing that he is a good man who is simply mistaking lust for love. She believes that someone like Scarlett has to have skeletons in her cupboards and she begins to snoop around, anything she can use against the other woman, anything that can help her exact revenge.
What Rival doesn’t realize is: no one crosses Scarlett and gets away with it.
Now, the betrayed wife and the other woman collide.

I absoLove your answers, Eve! I can’t wait to read this one! Thank you for visiting my Ranch and sharing, and I hope you’ll return one day.

Read~ UnCover Monthly~ Apologies #needcovers #freepromo #mfrwauthor

Osiyo~

I hope everyone is having a great summer, or winter if that’s your region. Mine is busy with five new puppies almost ready for new forever homes.

In May my baby brother married a wonderful young woman we all adore. I was so honored my brother asked my daughter (far left blonde) to stand with him as a Groom’s Maid. More thrilling, new hubby and better-half are expecting a baby boy in October. I’ll be traveling to the baby shower (from Oklahoma) next month and I’m pretty stoked. This baby will be the first Lewis (my daddy’s line) born in almost half a century! In fact, this brother holds the title of “last Lewis” until his son arrives. Yes, very excited!

So, why am I telling you about this, instead of sharing book covers?

Well, I know you probably clicked the link expecting the usual monthly plethora of cover yum, and I apologize for not having any for you this month. Unfortunately, just because I have UCM up and running again, I haven’t gotten enough covers to post yet.

Consider this is my official welcome notice.

If you have pure romance covers to share, or know someone who does– I NEED them! 🙂

No erotic please.

If you have friends with new books out (or not so new), please let them know, share this link and help UCM rejuvenate to runneth over with yum once more.

You can find everything you’ll need to submit your covers on my site: https://calisarhose.com/uncover-monthly/

Thank you for all of your support over the past few years with UnCover Monthly. I look forward to serving you with FREE promo.

In the meantime, please stop by on Friday, 7/21 and meet my guest, Eve Rabi. I know she’d love to have all the company she can get.

Dodadagohvi~

Calisa Rhose visits with Eve Rabi- You gotta read! #mfrwauthor #tuesdayroundup #interview

Osiyo~

Welcome one and all! Grab a beverage of choice, something sweet and sinful. No-no, not the men. What’s the matter with you? You know the hands-on rules… The guest gets first pick! 😉 Take a comfy seat for another, or a first, spin in the Round Pen.

I’m thrilled to welcome my wonderfully, inspirationally talented! guest, Eve Rabi, who is sharing her book, The Other Woman with us!

Please show Eve some real Ranch love on her first rodeo at the Ranch!

Before I get to the nosy bits, tell us a bit about you.

First of all, thank you for allowing me the privilege of appearing on your delightful blog, Calisa (awesome name, by the way!).

Aw, thanks Eve! I love your name too.
I am a full-time author – 28 books, 5 screenplays, and a handful of short stories waiting to be published.

I am a hopeless romantic, but I also dig romance with bite. I can’t handle the same ol’, same ol’ vanilla romance and I’m not that keen on erotic.
So, I write romantic crime and suspense stories with humor.

I am inspired by the likes of Gillian Flynn, Sidney Sheldon, John Grisham and basically stories with themes of revenge in them.

I have two know-it-all daughters, a Pomeranian named Li’l Bow Wow, who failed obedience school (but I love him anyway) and two cats who know how to open the fridge and steal food. (They’re obsessed with food, I tell ya.)

Love the Pom’s name and it sounds like your cats take after you! LOL Now if you can train them to open your wine… 😉

In my spare time, I like to dance like no one is watching, much to the chagrin of my daughters. (I used to teach Latin American dancing when I was younger.  And thinner.)

I also love music, all kinds, even rap, heavy metal, head-banging crap – I just love and appreciate music, so I go to lots of concerts. Just saw Adele recently.

I’m into fashion and make-up in a huge way, and if I wasn’t writing books, I’d probably be a stylist or a make-up artist.

I hate housework, so alas, I do not have a spotless house. My car isn’t spotless either. If you want to see me in a bad mood, stick around while I clean up – I turn into a rabid banshee.

However, if it scores points with you, my wardrobe is color coded – shoes, jewelry, bags – all neatly arranged and color coded. See where my priorities lie? I’m screwed up, you can say it.

I live to write and I’m happiest when I am crafting a story. If I don’t write, I get cranky and go in search of chocolate and junk food.

Okay, I’ll begin the inquisition now that we’ve gotten that out of the way. My writing area at the moment is a corner of the couch in my living room. What does your writing space look like?

Well, Calisa, I do have a nice office, all rigged up with charts etc, but when I write, I tend to move around my house – the dining table, the patio, over my treadmill and my bed! I love slipping under the covers with my two cats and my Pomeranian lurking around while I hammer away at my keyboard. Right now, it’s winter and it’s cold and rainy, so under the covers in my bedroom is the ideal place to be.

Wherever I write, you can be assured, it’s messy, with coffee cups, used crockery, discarded socks, tissues and … chocolate wrappers! Yep, I’m totally undisciplined and messy, which annoys my daughters, who, by the way, are OCD when it comes to cleanliness. Can you believe it?  Some people say it’s a good kind of OCD to have, but I dunno; it’s like living with your mother-in-law.

You know, I actually do have an office now. A lovely craft room-slash-office-slash-sewing room my husband fixed up in the spare bedroom. I didn’t have it for so long before now. I just keep forgetting to update this question to reflect that! LOL But I still end up in my cozy recliner most of the time.

For a lot of writers it’s a life-altering event coming up with titles and character names. Others it comes as naturally as breathing. Which is it for you?

Oh, I find coming up with titles hard. I struggle with it.

However, I love naming my characters – unusual and meaningful names. I usually change characters names by the end of the book, as I find that as I write, the character often takes a different shape.

I come from a family of unusual names, Skye, Raine, Storm, Flame, Ruby, Iris … to name but a few, so my characters have names like Rival, Arena, Drover, Burn, Bridie …

Ooh! I may have to steal some of those names! My daughters are Calais, Keri and Stephanie Merie. We also have granddaughters; Andee, Mackenzie, Nikkia, Kaia and Safira Lyric. If we get another grandgirl someday her name will probably be Daisy Rain (after my mom, Daisy). My niece named her children Kallen (the only boy in the family!) and Kaisly. I LOVE  unique names!

Ok. What advice would you offer aspiring and new writers?

Don’t stop writing. Listen to your critics, sure, but don’t take their advice all the time. Believe in your story. If you like it, chances are your readers will like it too.
Also, be nice to other writers. They aren’t your competition and they can help you. Support them and they will return the favor.

This is SO true! Much more than I expected when I first began writing and reaching out.

I have some awesome author friends across the globe, who I have never met in person, but they are always there for me, and vice versa. Especially when the Internet trolls attack (which is usually another unsuccessful author hiding behind her computer screen).

Unfortunately, also true. 😦

I’m lucky to have these great authors in my life. One of those kind and caring authors is the lovely Lisa. M. Owen. She rocks. Even her fiancé, a former marine named John rocks.

Lisa is very lovely. She’s been here a time or two I believe. 🙂 The constant shift of the industry makes me often scratch my head and ask ‘what next?’ So, what do you think it takes to be a successful author at the moment?

This is just my opinion:

The competition is greater than ever and a number of authors are forced to get full-time jobs to pay the bills. To avoid this, I believe that you should take your book to the readers. Cross promote with other authors and share their work.

Facebook groups are good too. However, promoting takes time. If you can get some help with promoting, you will score. Writing and publishing books is a business, and if you’re not spending eight hours a day on your business, chances are you will not be as successful as you’d like to be.

Who would you like to meet in the publishing industry- dead or alive- and why?

Well, I’d love to have dinner with Chelsea Handler and Ellen. Why? Because they are funny, smart women. I would serve lots of vodka and tequila shots, of course. Then I’d encourage them to drunk-dial all the people who pissed them off in life.

Don’t you think that will be a fun night?

Oh, hell yeah! 😆

I’d record the evening, of course.

Now, I’ll ask questions and you answer them in one word. 😆

Favorite animal? Cats – I am one step away from being a crazy cat woman. (Calisa cuts in-You and my sister!) But I’m an animal lover, so I love all animals, really.

Our mixed breed Boxer had 5 pupies five weeks ago and I want to keep them all! My daughter’s Chihuahua just had 6 babies today…and I want them too!

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter?

Summer – love the long, warm days where you can end it with a tall glass of sparkling white wine.

Favorite food?

A chocolate burger – I’m a junk food lover, what can I say?

Definitely need that recipe, Eve! Well done! 🙂

Moving on. What are you working on now?

I’m working on a sequel to The Other Woman – a betrayed wife takes on the other woman.

It’s a story about love, lust, betrayal and revenge. Big revenge. Huge!

For those readers who enjoy romance with bite, this will be the series for you.

As one Amazon reader put it, “If you’re tired of the same old boring romance, same old plots, try this author’s books. They’re romance with twists and turns that will keep you glued to your kindle.”

What are you sharing today?

Where will you be next?

I have a number of books in the pipeline with not enough hours in the day to write these stories. The one thing you can be sure of, is that, as a writer, I am here to stay.

Calisa, I would rather gift you another one of my books as a thank you for allowing me to grace your lovely blog. 🙂

I’m honored to receive one of your books! Wishing you much luck with your book(s) and writing. I hope you’ll come visit again soon. Maybe on UnCover Monthly?

Thank you so much for allowing me the privilege of gracing your lovely blog, Calisa. It was a pleasure and the questions were fun. 🙂

Thank you so much for playing along Eve! I loved your responses, great fun!

Calisa Rhose breaks down word count #mfrwauthor #writeabookbyminutes #wordsperhour

Osiyo~

Welcome! It’s been a looooong time since I wrote a craft post but this is important in my writing life, so I thought I’d share some simple numbers that will boggle the mind–or maybe that ‘s just me– and make you say, “Pshh-I can do that!” even when you’ve just spent the day staring at the blank page and telling yourself you can’t do it, not again. I’m not going to tell you how to write a best seller, or a seller at any level. I’m not going to reveal some big, hidden secret to writing the book you want to write. I’m not going to offer a brilliant formula to finishing your book.

Heck, I’m not even going to tell you anything about writing, in actuality.

Now you’re asking what I am going to tell you. Well, here it is.

When you sit down at that blank page I know all the fears and doubts that begin to circle over and through you. Believe me, I KNOW. In fact, that’s sort of what made me decide to write this post. I’ve been struggling for five years to finish a new book and I’m still struggling. Why? Excuses. Life. Stress. Doubt. Frustration. Procrastination. Take your pick.

Words just haven’t been coming to me. It’s depressing at times, but it’s also overwhelming; the thought of writing 50-100K word ms and make them make sense. At times I ask why I ever wanted to become a writer. Other times I ask myself what makes me think I am a writer.

Then something like today happens and it all suddenly makes sense again, my world is right side up once more.

Today I was catching up on email (yes, instead of writing) and came across an interesting article from one of the many craft blogs I follow. The post asked, How long should a book be? We’ve all been told what is not enough words or is too many words at some point in our career. Length is loosely explained in this interesting article by  BLAKE ATWOOD.

Ok, yes, we already know how to break words down per day. I have multiple worksheets for plotting word count. But for some reason, probably having something to do with my inability to finish a manuscript, his words struck me as an AhHa moment. So I did some calculating myself and as I write this I’m wondering why I haven’t been able to write several mss in the last five years.

First off, for you math whiz kids, I know this may not be by exact numbers, but for my purpose it’s close enough to make my point, and I’m nopt a math whiz. I’m not even a math crawl. I avoid numbers whenever possible. 🙂

Anyhoo– Without knowing exact numbers Blake uses, my total word count is divided by 255 days per year– subtracting 52 weekends from 365 days– and gives a reachable word count per 8 hour work day. NaNoWriMo uses a similar break down, that I have used in the past and it worked for me. I know this, yet some days even that small per day number seems daunting to me. But really…

That breaks down even further to a much less formidable number, regardless of your ending word count goal. I know you’re aware of that, but sometimes it helps to see, rather than hear something. I am sure the visualization will help anyone manage to finish a ms, no matter how long it is.

Let’s have some fun, since you’re here with me procrastinating, instead of hammering out that incredibly mind boggling daily wc. 😆 Yeah, I know why you’re really here so, while you are let’s begin.

50K in 255- 8 hour days (some are rounded to the nearest approx. whole number, so you might get a slightly different number than I do). That’s just 196 words per day, only 24.5  words per hour, 12.25 per 30 minutes, or a measly 6.125 words per quarter hour.

Now, I don’t type as fast as others, and some type four or more times that number per MINUTE (yep, that thought just made my head spin). Some of us can manage 500 words per hour, some struggle to get that number, but even I can manage 24 words in 60 minutes! That a mere .4 words per minute!

60K= 235 pd, 29 phr, 14.5 p 1/2 hr, 7 words pqtr hr

70K= 274.5 pd, 34 phr, 17 p1/2 hr, 8.5 pqtr hr

80K= 324 pd, 39.25 phr, 20 p1/2 hr, 10 pqtr hr

90K= 535 pd, 44 phr, 22 p1/2 hr, 11 pqtr hr

100K= 392 pd, 49 phr, 24.5 p1/2 hr, 12.25 pqtr hr

So who’s with me? Can we write 7, 8, 10, 11 or 12 words–in the next fifteen minutes? What? Seriously? All we have to do is BICHOK: Butt In ChairHands On Keyboard, and count that word count down.

Well, there you have it. Ramblings on ways to trick my muse into cooperating long enough to finish a ms. Thanks for tagging along and I sincerely hope this will help someone even a tidbit. If not, I hope you get a giggle at least. 😉

Calisa Rhose chats with Lisa Owens about Damaged #mfrwauthor #interview #tuesdayroundup

Osiyo~

Welcome one and all! Grab a beverage of choice, something sweet and sinful. No-no, not the men. What’s the matter with you? You know the hands-on rules… The guest gets first pick! 😉 Take a comfy seat for another, or a first, spin in the Round Pen.

I’m thrilled to welcome my talented guest today, Lisa M. Owens, who is sharing Damaged with us!

Please show Lisa some real Ranch love!

Before I get to the questions, please, tell us a bit about you.

I am currently going back to school full-time to get my bachelor’s degree in psychology. But I still have plenty of time to write heart-stopping romance!

When I’m not working in my lovely new office upstairs, my writing area is my cozy recliner in the living room. What does your writing space look like?

That’s funny. I have a lovely new office space too. That’s where I spend most of my time writing. Sometimes I spread my computer and research out on the dining room table and write.

LOL I spend more time in my recliner because my office is secluded upstairs and I feel alone in the world if I stay in it too long.

For a lot of writers it’s a life-altering event coming up with titles and character names. Others it comes as naturally as breathing. Which is it for you?

It seems to come naturally to me. The titles and characters come to me before the plot of the story does.

Mine usually do too. Wonder what else we have in common? 🙂

What advice would you offer aspiring and new writers?

Never stop writing. That was advice that was given to me and it has since proved to be worth its weight in gold. Never stop. No matter what people tell you or who tries to stop you.

The constant shift of the industry makes me often scratch my head and ask ‘what next?’ So, what do you think it takes to be a successful author at the moment?

Stubbornness. Refusing to give up. This is a tough industry and it’s hard to be successful but the one’s that are successful have one thing in common: they never gave up.

I agree wholeheartedly!

Who would you like to meet in the publishing industry- dead or alive- and why?

Eve Rabi. She has helped me in enormous ways as an author and I would love to meet her in person and tell her thank you.

It’s time for 3 in 1! I’ll ask the questions and you answer them in one word. 😆

Favorite animal? Butterfly (Calisa says: That’s not an animal, so we’ll call it one. I love it!)

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter? Winter

Favorite food? Chocolate

Well done! 🙂 So let’s share a bit.

What are you working on now?

A sequel to DAMAGED, titled DESTROYED

What are you sharing today?

Freedom isn’t free.

Staff Sergeant Austin Chandler learned this lesson well. Dealing with the devastating truth that his military career is over, he is discharged from the Marines and returns home from fighting the war in Afghanistan with battle scars he fears will never heal. But the truth is a bitter pill to swallow when he arrives at the airport and realizes his wife has abandoned him when he needed her the most. Broken in body as well as in spirit, Austin suffers not only from the slow-healing scars on his back, but also the wounds that her desertion has left on his troubled heart.

Until a chance encounter with a beautiful artist leaves him wondering if perhaps some things are meant to be. Trisha Morgan has secrets she is desperately wants to hide. With a troubled past and abandonment issues of her own, she fears love only leads to rejection and pain.

But can two wounded souls break through the battered barriers of each other’s hearts?

Where can we find you and your books?

Calisa Rhose presents Caroline Warfield on Tuesday RoundUp #MFRWauthor #historicalromance #thereluctantwife

Osiyo~

I’m turning the Round Pen over to fellow author, Caroline Warfield today!

The Reluctant Wife

Children of Empire, Book 2

Genre: Pre Victorian, Historical Romance  µ Heat rating: R (two brief -mild- sexual encounters)

ISBN: pending  µ Page count: 334 pages

Pub date: April 26, 2017

What drives people apart? What brings them together? These are themes I like to explore in my work. I introduced three mischievous boys as supporting characters in A Dangerous Nativity. To my surprise, they imbedded themselves in my imagination.

When I began to plan a new series that would move the characters in my Dangerous Series forward a generation, I thought of those boys. What sort of heroes might they be? How did the problems they encountered growing up mold them?  Their interests, ambitions, and responsibilities would take them in different directions. As their stories emerged, however, I realized they had been driven far apart above all by the machinations of a duplicitous woman. (Of course they were! Did you doubt it?) It would take the right women to make them whole again.

Now I have three cousins, driven appar by deception, who must find their way back from the edges of the British Empire.

Their stories, set in the 1830s, began to form in my mind. I knew each one of them would eventually make their way home and find healing in the journey. The first, Rand Wheatly, had become a miserable recluse, living in the Canadian frontier and obsessed with wealth.  I told his story in The Renegade Wife, Book one of The Children of Empire. He and his cousin Charles sorted out some of their misunderstandings in that book, but left other issues unresolved. Charles, the Duke of Murnane, will be drawn into upheaval in Canton China before he can bring closure and final resolution in The Unexpected Wife, scheduled for October 2017.

The Reluctant Wife tells the story of Fred Wheatly who sought a military glory in the Bengal Army. He left England as a young man oblivious to the disasters he left in his wake. lll-suited to the politics and beaurocratic nonsense he encountered there, failure dogs his steps. Does he dare go home and face them?

Has anyting ever driven you away from family or friends? How did you resolve it? Or did you?

Giveaway!!!

I will give a kindle copy to one randomly selected person who leaves a comment. The prequel to this book, A Dangerous Nativity, is always **FREE**. You can get a copy here: http://www.carolinewarfield.com/bookshelf/a-dangerous-nativity-1815/

Blurb

When all else fails, love succeeds…

Captain Fred Wheatly’s comfortable life on the fringes of Bengal comes crashing down around him when his mistress dies, leaving him with two children he never expected to have to raise. When he chooses justice over army regulations, he’s forced to resign his position, leaving him with no way to support his unexpected family. He’s already had enough failures in his life. The last thing he needs is an attractive, interfering woman bedeviling his steps, reminding him of his duties.

All widowed Clare Armbruster needs is her brother’s signature on a legal document to be free of her past. After a failed marriage, and still mourning the loss of a child, she’s had it up to her ears with the assumptions she doesn’t know how to take care of herself, that what she needs is a husband, and with a great lout of a captain who can’t figure out what to do with his daughters. If only the frightened little girls didn’t need her help so badly.

Clare has made mistakes in the past. Can she trust Fred now? Can she trust herself? Captain Wheatly isn’t ashamed of his aristocratic heritage, but he doesn’t need his family and they’ve certainly never needed him. But with no more military career and two half-caste daughters to support, Fred must turn once more—as a failure—to the family he failed so often in the past. Can two hearts rise above past failures to forge a future together?

Excerpt

Get control of yourself, Clare, a small part of her brain urged, dimly aware that exhaustion and relief made her foolish. She didn’t care. Just that moment his arms around her back and his shoulder firm beneath her cheek felt solid. Safe. Dependable.

“Easy, easy. It’s only a tent,” he soothed, one hand making gentle circles on her back.

“You thought about us. No one ever—” He had looked after her, she realized, from the moment he found her at the inn in Calcutta comforting his children. No man ever took care for my comfort before.

She took a shuddering breath. Dependable? This is Fred Wheatly holding you, the man who— She didn’t remember what just then. She felt his kiss on her head, then her ear.

She raised her head and his mouth came down on hers. The gentle kiss made no demands, forced no response, and asked only trust. No man had ever kissed her like that. She couldn’t resist him. When he withdrew to look down at her, she closed the distance and kissed him back, tasting sweat, sand, and male.

“Papa? Are we there?”

He broke off the kiss and tipped his forehead to hers, silent laugher rocking him. “We have come to a place. That much is certain,” he responded. Clare didn’t think he referred to the way station.

What a great peek into The Reluctant Wife. And you’re offering up a FREE copy to a commenter! Readers, be sure to leave your email for the drawing.

Thank you, Caroline!

Calisa Rhose presents~Uncover Monthly #June2017 #mfrwauthor #coverlove

Osiyo~

Welcome one and all!

As many of you may know, I began renovating UCM in January with new and exciting improvements. I had planned to get everything back up and working by February 1, but life decided that would not happen. Last summer I tore three tendons in my right shoulder and it took until February to get surgery approved through Worker’s Compensation. But, on March 24th I finally got the surgery and now I’m back in physical therapy, and feeling better each day. It still hurts to do a lot and I have more PT and a long recovery road ahead (so I’ve been told), but I’m able to work on the pc enough to get something accomplished when I need to, even if it takes a few days. :lol; So on this lovely June day, I welcome my guest authors with their beautiful covers to the new and improved UnCover Monthly!

In the meantime, go HERE to get the application, then hurry and submit your covers for 2017! Remember, the early bird gets the earliest slots. 😀

For now, enjoy more awesome cover art by the incredible authors, publishers and artists who make them possible for you to gaze upon each month.

It would be great if you leave a comment letting everyone know what you think about them and maybe even check out a few author links to meet those behind the books. Or just say hi. Don’t forget to tell your friends to stop by so they can appreciate some greatness, or get in on the fun, too!

This feature is only to highlight the authors and artists (though if you see one you want to buy I’m sure the authors won’t mind 😆 ). Enjoy this months’ covers to ogle and explore. If there is one provided, you can follow the artist links by clicking on the name, if there’s an artist link provided, to learn more about the amazing creators of these beautiful covers.

There’s a heat level rating for covers, one through four scale, for your benefit. You should never see a *5* rating on the Ranch since I don’t feature anything erotic in nature. If there’s anything else you’d like to know about covers being revealed here, please don’t hesitate to let me know. You can leave it either in a comment or by my contact page https://calisarhose.com/say-hey/. :)

UnCover Monthly is back and needs YOU! #coverpromotion #UCMrevision #mfrwauthor

Get out the streamers and confetti!!! UnCover Monthly is up and ready to go again! Whooot!

I’ve been doing UCM for four years and I haven’t updated the page, or my original procedure in which I post covers. Shortly before the anniversary of UCM, mid-November, I decided the feature was in need of a small facelift. Now I’m finished revamping the feature.

New ideas that will excite!

It’s been four months since I disabled UCM’s guideline page. I originally had only intended to keep it down less than two months, but life has a way of taking control and waylaying the best laid plans. LOL But I’ve finally got the new stuff added and the old reworked a bit to clean up, and shorten that horrendously looooong guideline page. Why did no one ever say anything? I’m just sorry it took me forever to complete.

With my injury creeping up on one year (July 30, 2016), I finally had my needed surgery on March 24th to repair my right shoulder. Two torn tendons in the rotator cuff, and a shredded longhead bicep tendon that had to just be cut loose, it was too damaged to repair. I’ve been in physical therapy since two weeks after the surgery. I’m not healed by any means, but now that those pesky tendons have been repaired (or eliminated, something I didn’t know could be done), I can feel the therapy working to strengthen my injured shoulder.

FYI- to anyone curious, PT is not the same as working out at a gym!

I’m still on TTD for an extended four weeks, but typing isn’t as painful as long as I don’t over do. Which is also why this feature renovation has taken so long, I wasn’t able to type for longer than 30 minutes in a day, and that was spent replying to urgent emails about my injury and job, often followed by a nap. I’m regaining energy each day to soon resume normal life. That’s code for “return to the DDJ,” or dreaded day job. 😆

In the meantime, I AM actively accepting submissions!

This has not stopped or changed. However, I seriously need your covers so we can all begin enjoying UCM once again. I’d like to begin posting covers in June, so hurry and hop over to the guideline page and read up on the new changes I hinted at before here on this page and grab your applications.

UnCover Monthly is Growing Up! #mfrwauthor #featurerevision #update

Osiyo~

It’s been a while since I’ve done anything on the blog other than UnCover Monday each month, with some of those late, and I apologize for the silence. I’ve taken a sabbatical from writing for a bit to get my life and physical health back in order. After two deaths and a severe brain trauma in our families, all within a twelve month period, we’re all recovering well from those shocks. I also returned to day job work after years of being a stay-at-home wife and caregiver for FIL while raising a granddaughter.

Now I’m looking forward to my baby brother’s wedding in May! I’m hoping I’ll be in well enough condition to make it with a smile, since there’s no way I’ll miss the event. In July I injured my shoulder and have been going through Worker’s Comp rigmarole ever since. I’m sure many of you know all about this business. LOL I’m waiting for surgery right now. Let me tell ya’ll, torn rotator cuff and bicep tendons stink. 🙂

I haven’t been able to be on the PC for longer than a few minutes (like thirty at a time and usually no more than an hour in a day) before the pain boots me off. That means no productive writing or blogging, not even with guests, until I’m healed. That also means things seem to take three times longer to get done. *sigh*

BUT–they are getting done!

I decided in November to celebrate UnCover Monday’s (UCM) fourth anniversary by renovating the author-sharing feature. I’m adding a few new surprises and modifying other existing aspects. All-in-all, I’m hoping UCM will be more author friendly. I’m also hoping UCM will garner more free-will attention and become more widely known and used by authors (without my quarterly email requests for covers) to get their names out there.

You see, I came up with UCM because so many authors seem to put more into marketing books one at a time than they do marketing THEMSELVES. I’m a firm believer in author first marketing because, well to put it in basic terms, if there are no authors, there would be no books to market. Why would I put my whole marketing energies into one book that will be obsolete in three to five years (the common term of most contracts)?

Will readers remember ME after that time? Since they own some form of my book…I’m thinking that unless every book I write is outstanding, a redwood above the rest of the forest of books out there, the answer is probably NO.

What can I do to help readers remember me, the writer behind the books? After all, I want readers to buy ALL of MY books; not just this one memorable or cool title, or that one, or one of the next five books down the road. Right? I want readers to go in search of my books because they know MY name and not just one book title. Right?

Do you?

YES!

So UnCover Monday was born. To shout out the writers and, in some cases, the artists behind the books we all love, hate (in a good way, of course 😀 ) or love to hate. It’s to give credit where credit is due– TO THE AUTHOR. Yes, we’re all proud of our babies and we want to share them with the world…but we NEED the world to know who created that baby and all the babies that follow.

And that’s what UCM is for.

To help authors promote themselves through their books, no matter how many they write or how they’re published, whether it’s one or one hundred.

And for that reason alone, UCM does not, and never will, promote cover reveals. UCM promotes AUTHOR reveals! 🙂 And it’s still FREE after four years!!! Will I ever charge for UCM slots? Who knows? Who cares? Right now it’s FREE author  promotion! I invite you to check out the update page for more information, and you can ask questions over there in the comments section, too. 🙂

If you don’t think you have time right now to pop over to the UCM link, you can still submit covers during the revision process. I’m storing every submission by date like I always have, so when UCM re-opens, I’ll have a full line up to begin posting for a few months, hopefully. So, take a moment to click this link and grab your reusable application to submit your covers!
