A2Z-BADGE-000 [2015] - Life is Good

Osiyo/Hello~

To continue my catch-up, here’s Friday and Saturday’s post. I hope you enjoy and join me Monday for a new post.

I15 is for~

Inspiration. I hear a lot of writers say they are often asked where they get their ideas from. I hear it. The most common answers I hear, and give are from everywhere, everyone I see, meet or know. Inspiration comes from within our minds, something we hear on the radio, tv or other place, something we read, the list goes on. One place and maybe another type of inspiration comes from reading. Not just reading articles, but critiquing, beta reading, reading work of a favorite author or friend.

It’s not what they write that inspires me, but how many books they seem to write in a year, two years, five years. It makes me look at my own production and sometimes it makes me feel like a slacker, not worthy, like I’m a fraud. How can I claim to be a writer when I haven’t released a book in over a year?

It’s at those times I have to remind myself that every writer writes at their own speed, what works for them. I also have to remind myself that I was forced to take most of last year off when I was on the verge of burn-out. I was under too much stress at home and writing and I simply over did it, everything. I took up jewelry crafting again, something I hadn’t done in several years. Now I do both, write and craft and one feeds off the other. I’m beta reading for a friend now and I admire her ability to pop out so many books a year (two or four possibly?), and it doesn’t hurt that I LOVE her writing!

J15  is for~

Joyous. As I said, Andee will get her cast Monday. My daughter offered to drive us to the hospital because my car has been breaking down for months and hubby finally got the parts and time to fix it last weekend. Only, all his work did not fix it. Then he got another part, an yet one more part, and finally a week later he was able to FIX MY CAR! To say I’m ecstatic is short of the elation I felt today as we drove my car to town and it didn’t bang or shake once. LOL Seriously, I could barely go three miles before it started it’s racket and at times I was fairly sure my poor baby would crumble into a heap of nuts and bolts on the road. I finally stopped driving it farther than the bus stop (1/10 of a mile to the end of our street) a couple weeks ago. But as of yesterday my car is healed! YAY!!!

And that gets me all up to the letter. See ya’ll Monday. 😀

Dodadagohvi/Until we meet again~

PS

In case you’re curious, I greet and close almost every post in Cherokee, of which I’m one-fourth and very proud.

G-J, Calisa Rhose is Playing Catch Up #MFRWAuthor #AtoZChallenge

A2Z-BADGE-000 [2015] - Life is GoodOsiyo~

So, as you know, this past week has been quite the challenge, and I’m not talking about just this Blogging A to Z Challenge.

Monday was spent running, all day, with hubby. Very important stuff that had to be done. I’m happy to say by the end of that day there was success. I also had to get UnCover Monday posted. That’s my monthly cover love feature you can find out more about here. I should point out that is strictly for happy ever after romance books. 🙂

Tuesday I spent all day in the hospital(s) with Andee and her broken arm. Good news there, we get her cast Monday. Color me happy since it’s hard to keep her off scooters and other dangerous things being the tomboy she is! lol Anyway, I was a letter behind come Wednesday and had planned to get it caught up Sunday.

Now I’m three letters behind, not counting today’s post, and have decided to play a little quickie catch-up by doing two letters today and two tomorrow. According to A-Z’s challenge calendar below I should be on ‘J’ so read on and I’ll finish quickly for you. 🙂 april-calendar-2015.jpg

G15 is for Greatful

We were supposed to see horrendous weather Wednesday. The weatherman said to be ready for enormous hail,  parts of Oklahoma got up to baseball size. He also said to expect tornadoes. Yep, that’s spring weather predictions in the mid-west. But I’m so thankful, as I’m sure many are, there were just two small (EF1) tornadoes reported in the state all day. Unfortunately, the further east that storm traveled, there were other larger, more devastating tornadoes in the news in Kansas and Illinois. It is proving to be a bad spring so I’m thankful this storm had mercy. May is when we typically get it bad here. All the huge or devastating tornadoes in the past have mostly happened in May. One hit near where two of my daughters lived at that time. One within a mile of my oldest daughter’s home, who has since moved back to California, and one within a mile of my youngest daughter’s gas station three miles from me. I lived about 25 miles from here at that time in 2010 and 2011 and was very scared and worried, let me just say. Now we’ve moved to this same area and  in the three and a half years since we’ve been here there has been no tornadoes in our area. Our house had been here for twenty five years when we bought it. I’m praying it stands for another 25 and more. 🙂

H15 is for Healing

Andee came in and grabbed a fly swatter Thursday night and tried to shove it into her splint. She claimed she’d sweated and it itched, but I remember well how hard it was for her not to shove all manner of objects up her last cast when her skin got cruddy under the plaster, and worse when the bones began healing. I’m thinking she might have got water and/or dirt in it already. In one day? Have I mentioned she’s a tomboy? lol  I’m trying to think of something I can fashion for her to scratch with this time.

Join me tomorrow when I tackle the next two letters in my A to Z challenge. Thank you for stopping by today and I’m sorry this is a short two-fer post. I’ll try to do better tomorrow. 🙂

Osiyo~

I’m channeling my spiritual side today. If I don’t…well, you might guess what F would stand for in today’s A to Z Challenge post (and yes, I’m aware I missed my letter post for yesterday, so I’ll catch up Sunday).

F15 is for~

Here’s my day yesterday. (This is, in part, an email to a friend)

Things have been a bit tough here in the Rhose household lately. Yesterday they got a little more…shall I say challenging? It began with a cartwheel that went very, very wrong. There was a boy doing cartwheels, and Andee got the urge to show her friends she can do the flips too. ‘The girl’ cannot do cartwheels! She knows that, we all know that.
Double LL break 4-21-2012

Double LL break 4-21-2012

About 11 a.m. I got a call from the school that Andee–yes, the birthday girl from just days ago, challenge letter ‘C’–broke her arm. So, I asked the school secretary ‘how bad’ and she said, “It’s, uh…well, ah, mmn–You might want to look for yourself.” I knew right then it was bad. I asked which arm, although I already knew deep down. The left. Again. Three years ago (almost to the day!), 4-21-12, she broke her left arm in the middle of both forearm bones when she fell off a gate at her dad’s house.

Mr. Rhose had to stay home with his dad, so I took the girl to the nearest hospital and spent three hours in the treatment room. Finally, the Dr. set it and released Lbreak4-213x4dualher. Luckily, she only broke the radial this time, instead of both as last time. But I looked at the x-rays, beforeand after he set and splinted it, and it didn’t look any better when he was finished. See, Andee BREAKS her arm, not fractures, not cracks, not clean breaks. lol Just short of compound, total displacement, so it has to be reset into place, under sedation. She did that to both bones last time. Her arm was (capital) ‘S-shaped’ three years ago. This time it was a lowercase ‘s’. lol
As soon as that dr. released her I immediately headed to OKC and the Children’s hospital. I should have gone there first, but it’s almost an hour away and not knowing how much internal damage was done, I thought it best to go to the closest one. Wrong. I won’t make that mistake again. That dr. only gave her a pain shot before he set it. She was screaming.

Andee’s mom was able to meet us at the first hospital just after the setting, so they followed us to OKC at around 2:30 p.m., where we spent the next nearly 6 hours. As soon as the Dr. there walked in Andee asked, “Why do I think I know you?” I looked at him and realized right off that Dr. Williams is the same Dr. who treated her three years ago!
They got x-rays from the first hospital and immediately agreed with me that it was not set right. Called the ortho dr. and then we waited for consult, free time to fix her and a free room to work in. Since the ortho dr. uses constant x-rays to make sure the bone is set right before they splint it, there couldn’t be anyone in the adjoining bed, and they were full last night.

4-7Break

New single bone break 4-7-2015

New single bone break 4-7-2015

New single bone break 4-7-2015

The ortho on call last night wasn’t the same resident as three years ago (Austin Taylor was young, but oh-so hot! lol and has since graduated), but the gal last night was great and very nice. She was finally able to get to work at 6 p.m. and Andee was waking up by 7. Yes, OU Children’s always knocks her out completely. Thankfully, Andee broke her arm before lunch so there was no full stomach issues to worry about when they sedated her. We looked at the after x-ray again and you can barely tell where it’s broken! Such a clean job.

Final X-ray 4-7-2015

Final X-ray 4-7-2015

We finally got released at a little before 8 p.m. and home just after 9, after a pain med fill (thank God for all night pharmacies!) and food for the girl. Poor thing was starved! lol So…Monday we go for the cast. She’ll return to school tomorrow.

Oh–and her ortho dr. for casting and follow-ups? Also the same one she had last time. I’m glad because we really liked Dr. Stockton. And I had to promise Dr. Williams I’ll bring Andee to visit him Monday when we go back.

For now, this is my Andee.

As soon as I have the other X-rays I’ll share those for anyone who cares to see what the initial break looked like. I’ll also post updates on casts and healing progress.
I could write a book of my life! LOL Until next time!

Easter Does Not Begin With D ~ #MFRWAuthor #Easter #AtoZChallenge2015

A2Z-BADGE-000 [2015] - Life is Good

Osiyo~

Yes, I know Easter doesn’t begin with D, Saturday’s letter in the challenge, but I’m a bit of a rebel so I’m making it work. Besides, I’m also a day late with this one because of Easter. 😉 But, hey, at least I’m still in the challenge!

D15 is for~

Day of blessings. And, since it is Easter, I just want to wish everyone a wonderful holiday! We had our Easter celebration on Saturday due to rain expected Sunday. It all started with Andee’s dad asking to come spend the weekend with us, instead of taking Andee to his house for his weekend with her. Somehow it turned into a big family party with Andee’s mom, boyfriend and baby sis coming. My youngest daughter, hubby and their daughter, Nikkia, joined us, as did my sister and brother in-law. The kids had a great egg hunt with three neighbor kids who came to play, and we had a hotdog cookout. Good times! Good times. 😀

I hope your Easter was a blessed one with family, friends and love.

Folks, Andee is our first grandchild and she has reached a huge milestone. To say we are thrilled and proud of her, well I hope everyone reading this is, or will be, blessed with a grandchild as wonderful as we’ve been blessed with. We actually have five granddaughters and we’re super proud of each and every one of them.

Andee loves horses, her two dogs and playing with friends. She’s a confessed tom-boy, but loves to dress up and put on make up (to play, of course). She’s in fourth grade and makes excellent grades, but not perfect. And that’s just fine with us since we know she does her best and that’s all we can ask. 🙂

So, because Anna Banana lives with us and we have lots to do to prepare for her celebration, I’ll keep this post short.

Thanks for stopping by to help us party!

Boy-Oh-Boy!

Have you ever had one of those days that starts out perfect, everything Universe seems to be on your side, life is good, even at 6:30 in the morning, and then all of a sudden- BAM!- it explodes out of control? Of course you have. And all I can say about it is boy-oh-boy what a day! I hope I still have hair by Easter.

Suffice to say that’s been my day, all day, today. Due to family privacy, I can’t explain, but in most cases I usually end the day with, “I can’t wait for tomorrow!”

Today, however, I’m saying, “Dear God, boy-oh-boy, what have you got in store for me tomorrow?” I’m planning to hide under the covers all day, on the advice of a dear friend who called and cheered me up when I really needed her. I love ya, Lo! I’ll try to get my post up earlier tomorrow. 🙂

A2Z-BADGE-000 [2015] - Life is Good

Osiyo~

Welcome and hello! First off, some of you might have seen this post, or rather part of it, go live yesterday and now again this morning. Yesterday was an ‘oops.’ I accidentally hit Publish while drafting this post and had to start all over.

A15 is for~

April, and the Pen of the Dreamer aka the Ranch will be participating in the A to Z Challenge again this year. Last year I made it through about four days before life overtook my challenge and I lost. This year I’m shooting for a week. 😆 Just kidding! I’m shooting for the whole month. I did aim that high last year, but when you care for a middle school child and a child-minded adult, well life sometimes (ok, most times) is not my own.

So what will I be blogging about? I hope you’ll visit to find out, because I don’t really know what will jump out of my head on any given day. I’m going freestyle this year. Some bloggers, there are 544 signed up!, have chosen to blog on a theme. I’m curious what they will blog about for 30 days in one area and I’m sure those blogs will be exceptional. I didn’t think I could do that this time, so I’ll be blogging this month about whatever comes up. After all, here on the Ranch we like to keep things loose and fun!

So, thank you for visiting and I’ll be hopping to as many posts this month as I am able. If you’d like to join the hopping fun during April to see what 544 people are chatting about, you can find all the participants on the A to Z site.

We got home and he got a call that a special sheetrock tool he’s been needing was available for very cheap, too cheap, but we couldn’t pass on the chance it was really a good deal. Being a rather large tool, we took his dad’s truck again, to haul it. Thirty-two miles one way–to a town that is only about twenty miles from where we live– Why? Because for two months the mile long bridge between our area and the other town has been under construction and impassable, and will be for at least another month.

So off we go to get this great deal, hubby fighting the steering with the knowledge he’ll have to put in a new power steering pump very soon. To make the long trip longer, this is Renaissance Fair weekend in the large town between home and where we’re going. It’s also spring cleaning-free dump weekend in said large town. Results? Lots and lots of extra traffic on the roads, combined with those on this side of the bridge no one can cross but with places to go.

Type of tool hubbs needs

We get where we’re going only to find out the tool we went to buy is not what he needs. Oh, it was a sheetrock tool, just not the one we were hoping it was. It was not like the one to the <– left, that raises whole drywall panels and holds them to hang on ceilings.

Type of tool for sale

It was a pole jack like that one –> that holds the rock in place once you get it up there. No help at all. lol Did I mention it was cheap? That’s why. 😆

We return to the truck only to learn it may not get us back home–32 miles–half of which is freeway. Down the street was three different big name auto parts stores so getting a new pump wasn’t a problem. Hubbs had that much cash on him and the store offered the tool to do the job rent-free. So, we take a chance and head out.

Well, we made it almost home, stopped at a gas station near home to check the truck and put fuel in to replace what we’d used, got back on the smaller highway and were within 5 miles of home, before everything shut down. We’d lost the serpentine belt. Hubbs put it back on and we got all of 100 feet before it came off again so we coasted down the hill to turn onto the road that leads home. Just as you get onto that road there’s a small turnout so we prayed we’d make it that far, and we did. Thank you, God! But…the belt had come off completely on the road somewhere in the last mile.

Hubbs went looking for the belt while I called our insurance tow service. After all, that’s why we pay for it, right? Well, guess what? It doesn’t transfer to another vehicle even if we are driving that vehicle. Not even when Hubbs name is also on his dad’s insurance. Nope, it will cost us $79.95 for a five mile tow–but then we can argue it out with our insurance later. Oh- and they want the credit card number over the phone before the service that’s on OUR side will dispatch the tow  truck.

That’s all fine and dandy…except, on the way to the dump this morning we stopped for coffee. I took my card in, didn’t use it though, stuck it in my jeans pocket and forgot to put it back in my wallet in the truck. Went to the dump and I guess that’s where my card is still. Before we went to look at the tool I had to put a stop block on my missing card that I’ll get the replacement for in ten days. The good news is I can’t spend the money on that card until I get the new one, so I’m not broke. LOL

Forget the tow service. Daughter offered to pay when she met us where we broke down, but hubbs declined and I rode with daughter while he fast-footed the truck home on a wing and lots of prayers. lol It only took him two hours to replace the steering pump and off we went to return the tool. Carl’s Jr. was dinner. LOL Needless to say I didn’t get to post a blog today until late, but I hope you enjoy the story of my Saturday. 😀

Please stop back in on Monday to see what I have for F.

April 4…

Dogs are so important to us. Mr. Rhose and I have four, and our granddaughter has one that lives with her (us), also.

Li'l Miss Cocoa Rio

Debit card image- Li’l Miss Cocoa Rio

Cocoa’s my baby. When I had my new debit/credit card personalized I had my little girl’s picture put on it. She doesn’t play with toys often, but she had a yellow squeaky fish she would fight hubby’s dog for. He ‘killed’ her fish last fall and broke Cocoa’s heart. I got her a new squeaky toy, a blue squirrel, and she has no use for it. LOL She’s my little purebred chihuahua, registered and papered. 🙂 She’s had exactly one puppy, we named Diamond Rio, who is now the constant companion to a wheelchair-bound woman whom I gifted him to when he was a few months old. I would like to get another puppy from her, but she’s too old and I worried about her health-being so small- even when she was younger.

Spike: I will sleep in any position.

Spike is Mr. Rhose’s ‘Chucky’. His little chihuahua buddy. I got him for hubby so he wouldn’t feel so terribly outnumbered in a house of all females. Believe it or not, Spike’s parents are no bigger than my five pound Cocoa. He just didn’t stop growing. (I think it has something to do with all the people food hubby fed him. :/ ) To say Spike is spoiled would be a gross understatement. He and Cocoa both sleep with us. We’ve tried to move them to their cushy beds on the floor but they won’t be treated like common dogs. In fact, when Spike gets in real trouble hubby calls him a ‘d-o-g’ and he will pout for hours. He’s a character. He loves hunting gophers, helped hubby put in a complete yard sprinkler system when he was very young and thinks all cows are out to get him. Like most small dogs, he doesn’t know he’s little. He keeps us smiling. 😀

Molly: Is Daddy home yet!?

Molly: Is Daddy home yet!?

Molly is a Jack Russell. Our friend who gave her to us is Swedish and needed to be able to travel freely to visit her aging father in Sweden. With Molly that was difficult because Molly is not a people ‘person’ and couldn’t be left with just anybody. When our friend saw how quickly Molly and I bonded she asked if we wanted her. But it’s too expensive to fly a dog. Not a problem, our friend paid all her expenses to Oklahoma. She wouldn’t leave my side. 🙂 But over the last three years Molly has slowly migrated to become hubby’s dog. She lives “up his butt” not to sound gross, but… I just don’t seem to exist unless I have a treat for her. LOL

Camera-shy Lucy Loo

Camera-shy Lucy Loo

Lucy is our little rescue girl. Mr. Rhose was remodeling an old apartment building and there was no heat installed yet, in January. One of the workers had been leaving her to freeze in the building, unbeknownst to hubby, with no food or water all night and letting her run the streets by day. Two years ago hubby brought her home so we could get her healthy and find her a good home, and now she’s a permanent fixture in the family. LOL It’s still very obvious Lucy had been badly abused. She still has trust issues and going bye-bye terrifies her, so we take her on rides to help her learn to trust that when she leaves, she WILL come back home. She plays in the silliest ways now, running in circles like a bullet, attacking our feet, barking at me for sticking my tongue out at her– but these activities, too, took a year and more to get out of her. She sleeps in her bed on the floor and is very possessive of her space, and is so very camera shy. Seriously, she refuses to look at the camera. 😆

Jetta: Andee's baby, or visa versa.

Jetta: Andee’s baby, or visa versa.

Then, as I mentioned, there’s Andee’s little old chihuahua/dachshund mix, Jetta. She’s had her since she was a baby and they are inseparable, and the same age give or take a few months. 🙂 This sweetie lives to please her mistress. Even if that means riding a huge horse like Sonny.

Yes, in our house 76b92-d is for dogs. Those furbabies we love like children.

Tune in tomorrow for the letter E, and thanks for stopping by today. 🙂
